Graduation

Ah, Graduation Saturday, when the proud parents get a glimpse of where their $120K went. A small portion goes into Southern Man's pocket, and he thanks them.

It opens with baccalaureate, which follows good Methodist liturgy and is always a lot of fun but we always sing the same two hymns.

After baccalaureate was the late-morning undergraduate commencement, at which we always enter to Elgar and exit to Vaughn Williams.

The Motley Fooles - Dr. Southern Man, Dr. P, Dr. S, and Dr. A.

Then in the early afternoon we watched the graduate students get their hoods and diplomas. Southern Man had twenty-one graduate from his program today and had the good fortune to sit next to a cute English professor that he sees about once a year, usually at graduation.

This group treated us to an a capella rendition of Fleetwood Mac's Don't Stop.

And finally all of the ceremonies were complete so Southern Man grabbed his gear and headed towards La Casa, taking care of errands and geocaches along the way, and is now curled up on the futon blogging and watching The Sea Hawk and eating delicious home-made stew and drinking a cold Mexican beer. It's half-days next week, then two glorious weeks off!

Hey now, wait a minute...you said you were old school nazarene. this blog says methodist... the two do not mix well. naz is of the holiness movement and the meths went social liberal.

I was born and raised and educated Nazarene and even taught for fourteen years at a Nazarene private college, but then followed the money to a Methodist school. Believe me, in comparison it's the mission field.

Hey there Southern Man!

What do your Southern Parents think about you going to the Methodist school to teach? The UMC signed on to Yales 'one god' statement with Islam thus throwing Jesus and the Holy Spirt under the bus (satan's bus) and they have also signed ontl the Ark of Hope-worship the Creation rather than the Creator doctrine. Look it up bro....I mean really look it up I am not joshing you. Lisa left the church because of it.

Hey Dr. Southern Man!

Now trending on Yahoo is a piece highlighting new PhD's on welfare and food stamps. What is your take on this?

Lots of people with grad degrees in humanities / social science / language studies / etc are hurting. STEM, not so much. In other words, there are a lot of women who just paid 120K for a worthless degree, so it's a crisis. If student loan approval and interest rates were pegged to the degree sought (just as business loans require a busuness plan) we wouldn't have this problem.

Thank you for responding to my post. The articles were about men,not women. What made you mention in your answer?
