Honors

Today was taken up by meetings and luncheons and honors ceremonies. Southern Man kicked off the day with an early-morning meeting (Dean's Leadership Team) and then worked hard to set up the late-morning honors ceremony for his computer science students.

The ceremonial table, complete with book and seal and candles. The five empty chairs are part of the ritual, as are the two unlit candles. Can you guess what they mean?

There was lots of posing for pictures after the ceremony.

The students and guests pitched in to reset the room for a noon luncheon.

Of course there were cookies!

And that ended Southern Man's responsibilities for the day, so he had a relaxing lunch with a colleague and then attended the school-wide honors convocation (where his only tasks were to stay awake and provide polite applause) and following reception (where his only tasks were to eat cake and drink punch and make small talk and pose for even more pictures with students and parents). Tomorrow is graduation!
